Bad Flag: New Mexico, USA (1915)

Okay, for this flag, there’s good news and bad news.

BAD NEWS

This flag is horrible.

There is the United States flag in the upper right hand corner, and it makes this flag look kinda like the Liberian County flags (and all vexillologists know how that turned out).

The words ‘New Mexico’ are shrinking.

It has the state seal on it, which is bad enough, but the text is wrapped in an awkward way around it.

And there’s a 47 on the flag (because New Mexico was the 47th state), but that just adds to the overall ugliness.

And don’t get me started on the background color.

After that it doesn’t look like there’s good news, but fortunately:

GOOD NEWS

This flag was never used, and it was only for the 1915 World Fair. (Thank Goodness!

–WHAT’S THE NEXT GOOD FLAG?–

Yer hint is…

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

See you on Tuesday!
