Bad Flag: Massachusetts, USA

401 years ago, pilgrims and Native Americans both settled down and had the first Thanksgiving. This was held in what is now Massachusetts. I’ve been to Boston before, and it is great. The flag of the state Boston is in though, is not…

Mainly, we have the problem of white space, and in art and flag designing, white space=not good.

But now we examine the seal in the center.

The ribbon around the bottom of the shield contains text you have to squint to see. I had to zoom in on the flag and tilt my head to read it, so already that’s a red flag (no pun intended).

Next we have a Native American and a star. The star is useless, and placing the disembodied arm close to the warrior roughly tells the story of the Native American Genocide that lasted from 1849 to 1870. So that is a HUGE minus.

Massachusetts, if you are reading this, (and if you are, hi) I urge you, change this arguably subtextually offensive flag RIGHT NOW. And yes, I am aware your state government is well aware of this issue, but redesign. It. A. S. A. P!

Happy Thanksgiving y’all. πŸ™‚
