Until Illinois decides to dump their old flag, Minnesota is the most recently-changed state flag. Having been adopted in May 2024, this flag certainly qualifies as a young-un!
I say the flag is controversial because many people (especially Minnesotans) haven’t been taking the flag too kindly. People think that the flag is too simple, or shows nothing about the heritage, or wrongfully freaked out when it was shown that one of the OG prototypes would be similar to the flag of the state of Puntland in Somalia.

Some people are still are hating on the new Minnesota flag, but hating on the design is like crumpling up and throwing away a piece of paper which contains lifesaving instructions! Just look at their old one, probably inadvertently containing something VERY offensive to Native Americans, along being a very overused type of state flag:

So in short, the new flag is an awesome one and it’s going to stay that way for years, if not decades. And if you still hate the new Minnesota flag, here’s a piece of advice:

make a flag mixed with Iowa and Australia

Great post! I like the style of the flag but I do think it misses the mark of representing Minnesota…but what do I know, I’m from Iowa.
