“AHHHOUUGGHHH!” 2: “YEEEEEEAAAAAUUUGGHHHHH!”

Behold, before your unbelieving eyes as you read this page, a SECOND post in a row about a famous scream. But this isn’t like the Wilhelm scream last time. This didn’t start a legacy…

it ended one.

You see, on January 19, 2004, ex-governor of Vermont Howard Dean gave a speech followed by a very animated scream. That night, he lost the Iowa Caucus to Massachusetts senator and naval officer John Kerry for the Democratic Party’s 2004 nominee. During the “I Have A Scream” speech (that’s actually what it was called by some), he said,

“Not only are we going to New Hampshire, Tom Harkin, we’re going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we’re going to California and Texas and New York. … And we’re going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we’re going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House!”

Dean then proceeded to lose more primaries and eventually had to quit when he placed 3rd in Wisconsin’s primaries, though some note he wasn’t really doing well before the incident.

Within the next four days, it was broadcast a whopping 633 times on national news networks. It is considered one of the first political memes to go viral, being subject to parody, remixes, and others.

Surprisingly, Dean had a good attitude about the incident, re-performing it in 2015 and saying, “I look back on it with some amusement. I get asked for autographs for it all the time.”

This is an example of how sometimes you don’t have to go over the top when doing stuff, even if you’re all riled up. And what’s more–*notification*

Wait–what’s this?

“People who write on WordPress are some of humanity’s most underrated people”?!

“YEEEEEEAAAAAUUUGGHHHHH!”
